Description
Overview The Kitchen Worker at the Nutrition and Education Service Center is responsible for scrubbing, washing and sanitizing large kitchen pots, pans, utensils and equipment. This position packs and delivers food and mail supplies to 4 senior centers and 4 nutrition sites using a city vehicle. The incumbent will assist cooks with food preparation and pulling food from storage. The Kitchen Worker will clean and sanitize all surfaces and equipment in the kitchen facility in accordance with the local Health Department Rules and Regulations.
Responsibilities • Assist in packing home delivered meals which includes individual portions as well as bulk approved containers of food
• Accurately review order forms to determine required quantities, ensure precise product counts when fulfilling orders, and properly package items
• Prepare and fill ice chests with ice as needed to support order requirements
• Use a serving utensil to portion food into individual plates, placing Oliver trays on to the Oliver Packing System to seal the trays
• Pack and deliver approved meal containers for transport to senior center and nutrition sites
• Read menu and center names on pans to ensure the correct amount of food gets to the correct center
• Load and unload hot pans and food from warmers, commercial ovens, and ranges, and transfer food into delivery vans using carts and mechanical lifts
• Assemble and fill supply orders for senior centers and nutrition sites
• Deliver and pick up interoffice mail at City Hall, Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites daily
• Clean and sanitize the inside of the delivery van, as well as pots, pans, cooking utensils, and delivery equipment, using approved methods and Health Department approved sanitizing solutions to remove all visible dirt and grease
• Measure and use sanitizing solutions according to directions and properly process equipment using the three-compartment sanitizing method
• Store cleansed equipment and utensils in their proper place in the kitchen
• Unload and store food and supplies in cases and bulk packs in designated areas which includes dry storage, walk-in freezer and refrigerator
• Lift and stack cases weighing up to 50lbs and read labels on cases to store in proper location
• Assist cooks with basic food preparation, including washing items in sinks, peeling vegetables, retrieving food from storage, opening cans with manual and electric can openers, cutting and slicing food using knives and slicers, and placing food in large pans and into walk-in refrigerators for thawing
• Clean and sanitize kitchen, offices and restrooms
• Inspect areas for dirt and grease and be able to remove all visible soil
• Empty trash from SO-gallon containers and place it in a 4 cubic yard dumpster
• Remove empty cases and load them into dumpsters, as well as placing empty milk crates and bread trays in designated areas
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Six (6) months to one (1) year experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring
Required within five (5) days of hire • Food Handler's Permit
Required within sixty (60) days of hire • First Aid Certified
• CPR Certified

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
