Description

Overview

The Airport Equipment Operator exists to maintain the airport in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).This position maintains the airfield grass within specified heights, repairs concrete and asphalt pavement to FAA specifications, supports/deletes and creates airfield markings per FAA specifications, maintains safety areas to FAA specifications. They retain the airport drainage ditches, assist the landside staff with mowing and support the airport mechanic in minor equipment repairs.

Responsibilities

• Fill in ruts, level humps, remove edge dams and maintain pavement edge drop offs to less than three inches

• Trim grass around lights and guidance signs so that they are visible to pilots and vehicles operators on the paved surfaces

• Paint and remove marking on the runways, taxiways and aprons per FAA specifications

• Maintain thermoplastic markings per manufacturer's specification

• Repair concrete and asphalt on the taxiways, runways, aprons and service roads per FAA specifications

• Sweep pavement to remove debris that can cause damage to aircraft

• Perform repairs to the airfield perimeter fence and gates

• Fill in animal holes under the fence to decrease wildlife hazards on the airport

• Prevent vegetation growth in the fence line to maintain sight lines per Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations

• Mow ditches and perform vegetation control to discourage wildlife from using the ditches

• Grade ditch bottoms to ensure water flow

• Remove silt from concrete lined ditches for water quality and proper drainage

• Remove trees and brush from ditches

• Perform daily inspections and servicing of equipment before and after use and make preventative and minor repairs as needed to ensure the equipment is operating properly

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Monday - Friday / 40 hours a week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

• Obtain and maintain an airport issued ID based on a fingerprint based criminal history record check.

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
