Definition & Distinguishing CharacteristicsThe Colusa County Sheriff's Office seeks to fill a Sergeant position. The position involves supervising, assigning, reviewing, and participating in the work of a unit within the Sheriff’s Office. This role requires active participation in daily tasks and the performance of a variety of technical duties related to the assigned area of responsibility.

This recruitment will be used to fill a current vacancy and establish an eligibility list. Supervision & Examples of DutiesReceives direction from a Lieutenant.
Exercises direct supervision over sworn staff.
Qualifications EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDLINES: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience.
TRAINING: High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate or diploma recognized by the State of California supplemented by additional course work in criminal justice, police science, public administration, business administration or a related field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: - A valid State of California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Possession of a valid Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Basic Certificate.
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Supervisory Course within one year from date of appointment.
- Some positions may require a Rangemaster Certificate.
Supplemental Information The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance (Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase.) The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
