Department of Finance and Budget Intern Office of Finance and Budget Position Type: Temporary, Internship (40 hours per week for the summer)

Overview: The Albemarle County Department of Finance & Budget is currently seeking interns for Summer 2026. This internship will provide tangible work experience in the various facets of a fast-paced Local Government Finance Department. The Department of Finance and Budget is composed of 8 distinct offices:
-Office of the CFO
-Controller's Office (which includes the Payroll and Accounting units)
-Office of Revenue Administration (which includes the Collections and Assessments units)
-Office of Real Estate
-Office of Investment & Debt Management
-Office of Management and Budget
-Procurement Office
-Office of Enterprise Risk Management & Shared Services
- Office of Grants & Agreements
Key Responsibilities/ Qualifications: - Proficient Accounting skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Good communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Great work ethic and detail-oriented
- Minimum introductory accounting coursework
- Inquisitive Mind
- Ability to navigate complex financial systems after quick training
Work Schedule and Pay: - Interns are expected to work approximately 40 hours per week
- Pay rate is $20/hour.
- Internship placement is projected for May-August 2026.
Location: On-site (in-person)

April 30th, 2026. You will have the opportunity to rotate through the different offices in the Department and gain firsthand experience in the various functions of the department by working on projects and tasks alongside staff.
