Description
As one of two colleges in the District,
Woodland Community College is located in Woodland, CA. The College is excited about its status as a Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) and serves our local communities in Woodland, Esparto, and Knights Landing in Yolo County, Lake County, and Colusa County. The College serves over 3,000 unduplicated students annually in multiple associate and certificated programs.
WCC prides itself on an innovative, student-centered faculty and partnerships with school districts and four-year colleges in its service area. The small college setting provides an advantage for faculty and staff to adapt to new instructional methods and processes and to foster strong interdisciplinary collaborations that benefit students. We are seeking a creative, innovative, and collaborative instructor to work to develop programs and services in ESL instruction that will serve our community.
Under the direction of the Woodland Community College Dean of Arts & Sciences, the successful candidate will teach ESOL courses to include reading, writing, grammar, conversation, listening and speaking. The candidate will facilitate ESOL program development implementation. Facilitation and teaching assignments may include days, evenings, and weekends. Responsible for working with existing K-12 Adult Education and other multiple county-based stakeholders, as well as the College Adult Education ( AEBG ) program stakeholders. Essential Duties Summary
- Organize and teach ESOL courses to include reading, writing, grammar, conversation, listening, and speaking;
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, religious, cultural, ability, ethnic and sexual orientation backgrounds of community college students, staff, and faculty;
- Maintain accurate attendance, scholastic, and student records, submit them according to published deadlines, and certify as to their accuracy;
- Comply with all institutional policies and procedures;
- Maintain currency and depth of knowledge in assigned areas of responsibility;
- Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
- Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees;
- Participate in college participatory governance process;
- Work effectively and professionally with colleagues and members of the college community.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in English at California Community Colleges: (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions.)
- Master’s in TESL , TESOL , applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis OR
- Bachelor’s in TESL , TESOL , English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading speech, or any foreign language OR
- Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of English.

- EQUIVALENCY REQUIREMENT : All applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications specified by the Yuba Community College District ( YCCD ) by the application filing date. Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual competence in Spanish and English;
- Knowledge of current issues and educational trends in teaching ESOL and/or Basic Skills in a community college setting;
- Academic preparation and/or experience in teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking in ESOL courses;
- Knowledge of diagnostic and classroom assessment practices and their applications;
- Ability to make effective teaching presentations using appropriate and current pedagogies and methodologies;
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of community colleges and the responsibilities of its faculty in realizing this mission;
- Academic preparation and experience in teaching ESOL to adult students.
Physical Demands Range/Step Class I - VII (Based on degree and teaching experience). Salary Range Steps 1: $1,377.25 - Step 10: $2,306.66 per unit. Benefits Information PART - TIME (less than .60 FTE ): Part-time positions less than .60 FTE are not entitled to any District paid fringe benefits.
