Description

Yuba College seeks a strong, well-rounded, equity-minded Ethnic Studies educator. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent instructor at a community college, and can provide leadership or contribute positively in areas such as: development of the Ethnic Studies program and curriculum; keeping course offerings up-to date and relevant; staying abreast of and communicating the current tr ends in Ethnic Studies education; and collaborating with area high schools .
The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds through effective communication and collaboration. Essential Duties Summary As a full-time faculty member, this individual will be expected to organize and teach Ethnic Studies courses, including but not limited to: Introduction to Ethnic Studies; History of Race and Ethnicity; and other courses in their area of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to organize and teach a diverse curriculum and engage in culturally responsive and accessible pedagogy. They will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policies; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters; develop and assess student learning outcomes; and perform other instructional-related duties as assigned. As part of a community of educators, the successful candidatewill demonstrate a commitment to participating in professional development opportunities that build effectiveness in areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing equity and diversity. Evening, weekend, distance education, and off-campus instruction may be part of the contract. The college offers courses in in-person, online, hybrid, and point-to-point interactive modalities. The successful candidate will be able to utilize instructional technologies effectively for inclusion and accessibility. Required Qualifications Knowledge of and ability to understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems, and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in Ethnic Studies at California Community Colleges• Master’s in African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/a Studies, or Asian-American Studies, or Native American/ American Indian Studies OR• Master’s in Ethnic Studies OR• The equivalent

Desired/Preferred Qualifications Interest or experience with community engagement or community projects. Trained in one of the Ethnic Studies disciplines (African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/a Studies, or Asian-American Studies, or Native American/ American Indian Studies) and prepared to teach comparative Ethnic Studies courses (i.e., Intro Ethnic Studies and History of Race).
