ABOUT THE POSITION : Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, the tenure track full time faculty member will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policies; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, develop and assess student learning outcomes, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned.
Yuba College seeks a strong, well rounded economist who has demonstrated experience or potential to be an excellent teacher at a community college, and who can provide leadership or contribute positively in areas such as keeping course offerings up-to date and relevant, developing the economics curriculum, staying abreast with and communicating the current trends in college economics reforms, articulating with area high schools, and maintaining relations with area colleges and universities. Essential Duties Summary DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : The person selected will be expected to:
• Provide effective classroom instruction using methods and materials that promote student learning and that are appropriate to the subject matter;
• Develop and maintain relevant community college economic curricula, including appropriate transfer/articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities;
• Teach day, evening, and/or weekend teaching assignments, including distributive education (e.g., interactive television, online) and non-traditionally-paced courses at different campus locations of Yuba College;
• Participate in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching and learning methods and materials;
• Participate in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees, and participate in the college’s participatory governance process;
• Comply with all institutional policies and procedures;
• Interact with area high schools;
• Maintain currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility;
• Demonstrate sensitivity to understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of our community college students. Required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for instructors in Economics at California Community Colleges:
• Master’s Degree in economics OR
• Bachelor’s in economics AND Master’s in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance, or political science OR
• The equivalent; OR
• Possess a California Community College life credential in the subject matter area of economics. Desired/Preferred Qualifications DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Preference may be given to applicants who:
• Possess a strong educational background in economics, including a Master’s degree or higher in economics from an accredited institution, or the equivalent.
• Have experience teaching economics at the community college level, or are prepared through other employment or student experiences to successfully teach economics.
• Meet the state’s minimum qualifications to teach mathematics and have experience teaching the full range of remedial and college level mathematics courses.
• Are active in the economics community or in economics professional development (e.g., professional organizations, conferences, meetings, workshops).
• Have experience articulating with high schools and 4-year institutions.
• Participated in department, division, and college-wide initiatives and committees.
• Are committed to the teaching profession, its goals and ideals, and express enthusiasm for the mission of the college. Physical Demands Range/Step Class 2, Step 1 - Class 7, Step 10 (New Hires will not be placed higher than step 10.)
