Public Works Technician I - Concrete
Description
Overview
The Public Works Technician I-Concrete is responsible for performing skilled work in carpentry and maintenance of City streets, with curbs and gutters, sidewalks, repair or reset concrete drainage infrastructure, maintenance and repair with bridge guardrail, and crash cushion. This role operates various street maintenance light equipment in effort to meet the yearly goal of street maintenance and repairs.
Responsibilities
- Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another.
- Performing daily Pre/Post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles.
- Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide. Direct traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades.
- Know how to setup message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal & emergency operations.
- Work closely with Public Works Tech's II and Ill by assisting with concrete work such as sidewalks, driveways, foundation, curbs, retaining walls, wheelchair ramps, pouring concrete, excavating, preps for concrete forms, spread and install materials needed for foundation.
- Respond to after-hours and weekends emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency.
- All employees will work on an On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shifts under emergency responses.
- Perform with a professional mind set. Must be able to lead a team, if needed.
- Keep materials stock in vehicles assignment, must communicate when supply/material is low.
- Able to Work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/or elevated conditions. Must be able to evaluate safe work conditions.
- Must be able to communicate with internal or external customers.
- When given a request, ensure proper communication with managers.
- Complete daily reports and work orders. All report and work orders must be legible.
- Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
- Non-Exempt - Full-Time
- Non - rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- No prior experience required.
Licenses and Certifications
Required
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.
Required -Within six (6) months of hire
- Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging
- Certification in Confine Space
- Certification in Trenching and Shoring

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
