Public Works Technician II - Vactor
Description
Overview The Public Works Technician II - Vactor will drive and operate Vactor truck and lead crew in daily operations, cleaning of inlet and manhole removing debris, and all functions related to the inlet cleaning program. They will complete daily work reports. This position is essential due to the importance of keeping the city's Storm Water Infrastructure open and functioning properly.
Responsibilities • Follow the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide. Set proper traffic control is in place at each job site using cones, barrels, arrow boards to ensure safety of general public and crews
• Operate Vactor panel and lead crew in cleaning and flushing of which includes removing debris using a shovel, weed eater, broom to remove debris from curb and gutter 5ft in each direction
• Clean manholes and jet main lines to remove debris allowing system to function properly
• Ensure all safety protocols are followed, and all employees are wearing proper PPE
• Obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another
• Follow all city policies and ability to operate on even and uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-way
• Perform daily pre/post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
• Perform weekly preventative maintenance of Vactor such greasing, lubricating, cleaning inside of cab and washing Vactor
• Respond to after hours and weekend emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and/ or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency. All employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
• Able to lead a team
• Keep materials stocked in vehicles, must communicate when supply/ material are low
• Able to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces, and/ or elevated conditions. Able to evaluate safe work conditions
• Able to communicate with internal and external customers. When given a request, ensure proper communication with the Foreman, Work Coordinator, Planner/ Scheduler, and Assistant Director
• Complete daily reports and work orders legibly
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non - Exempt - Full-Time
• Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/ GED
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire • Class A CDL
• Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging
• Certification in Confine Space
• Defensive Driving

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
