The PositionThis recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time position of Assessment-Records Assistant, which may be filled at the I or II level, depending on the qualifications, for the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Department at Napa County. The eligibility list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for up to one year from the establishment date.

The County Clerk/Recorder staff are responsible for the official recording, filing and preserving of all vital documents in the County. The Assessment-Records Assistant I/II performs a range of activities related to the processing and indexing of filed and recorded official documents and preparing and maintaining the assessment roll and property records; providing direct customer service; and performs a variety of clerical support functions in the Assessor and Recorder-County Clerk Divisions of the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk Department.
- The Assessment-Records Assistant I is the entry level class in the Assessment-Records Assistant series. The I level works under close supervision performing the more routine and less complex duties.
- The Assessment-Records Assistant II is the experienced journey level class in the Assessment-Records Assistant series. The II level and performs a wide range of duties with a much greater degree of independence and has the responsibility for determining the adequacy of documents for recording, handles more complex assessment tasks, and may provide technical assistance to others.
Position Requirements: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
- Education: E quivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Additional course work in real estate, appraisal, finance, or paralegal fields is highly desirable
- Experience
- Assessment-Records Assistant I: One year of general clerical experience performing support duties similar to those found in a County Assessor, Recorder, or Clerk Office, a title company, or financial institution is highly desirable.
- Assessment-Records Assistant II: Two years of directly related experience working with assessment records or legal documents found in a County Assessor, Recorder, and/or Clerk Office, a title company or financial institution; or, one year of experience as an Assessment-Records Assistant I in Napa County.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License.*
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
