REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY

OPTION I
One year of experience at the level of an Administrative Assistant III*.

OPTION II
Two years of experience in a contract environment** at the level of Administrative Assistant II*.

OPTION III
Three years of experience at the working supervisor*** level involving fleet management and/or maintenance****.

LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS
PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

**Contract environment refers to maintaining, monitoring, auditing, and evaluating contract agreements.

***Experience at the working supervising level refers to working with and supervising a crew of at least three or more journey-level automotive, bus, or truck technicians. Supervisory capacity refers to providing direct administration and technical supervision to include planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of staff, evaluating employee performance, approving leave of absence, counseling and recommending discipline.

Journey-Level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.

****Fleet management and maintenance refers to the inspection, maintenance, repair, procurement, assignment, and disposal of a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment used for construction, maintenance operations, emergency response, and/or for basic transportation purposes, and having knowledge of the industry repair and maintenance practices and regulations.

ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants who are receiving or have received bonus pay such as out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus, or reclassification study from CEO and wish to qualify using experience gained in County classifications that are not at the level of the classification listed in the requirements, must provide verification of qualifying bonus. Applicants do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position at the level of the classification listed in the requirements, or a position deemed to be at equivalent level. Sheriff’s Department employees must provide verification of qualifying bonus by completing the Special Pay Verification Form (SPVF) accessible at Special Pay Verification Form-Employees-Power Apps . The Classifications Unit will email the approved SPVF to the applicant and the Professional Examinations Unit. Verification of Experience (VOE) forms previously approved by Classifications Unit staff will be accepted. Forward documentation to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org and be sure to provide your name, the exam title, and exam number.

All applicants claiming out-of-class experience to meet the requirements should describe their out-of-class duties in detail in the Work Experience and Supplemental Questions sections of their application.

Verification must be provided at the time of filing, or within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of the filing period.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be used as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of two (2) parts:

PART I
A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 30%, assessing:


APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON PART I IN ORDER TO BE INVITED TO PART II.
PART II
A performance test, weighted 70%, assessing:
MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON EACH WEIGHTED PART TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS
If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

TESTING ACCOMMODATION

VETERAN'S CREDIT
If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email it to sheriffexamsunit@lasd.org within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing.

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
The names of applicants receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.

The list of successful applicants developed from this exam will be used to fill vacancies throughout the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

SPECIAL INFORMATION
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH.
Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IF HIRED
