The San Mateo County Human Services Agency (HSA), Employment Services branch is seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for the Community Worker II position.

Under general supervision, Community Workers provide a wide variety of services related to employment, emergency, and remedial education services for the general public, which may include individual and group instruction, case management, resource referrals, marketing and outreach. There are currently Community Worker II vacancies in Employment Services in the following role:

Community Worker II positions provide employment-related services to the general public within the regional Resource Centers and offices located throughout San Mateo County. They provide employment related support and/or resource referrals to individuals receiving CalWORKs Welfare to Work (WTW), CalFresh, and/or other benefit services.

The ideal candidate will:

Possess at least 2 years of experience in providing community services related to employment, emergency needs, and remedial education.

Note: This is a limited-term assignment. Limited term employees are assigned to assignments not to exceed three years. They receive medical and dental benefits similar to regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan. This recruitment may be used to fill future limited term positions.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills for a Community Worker II is two years' experience in providing community services of an emergency, remedial and educational nature for socially, economically or mentally disadvantaged persons.

Licensure/Certification:
Some positions require possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

Knowledge of:
Problems, needs, attitudes and behavior patterns of disadvantaged individuals and of the total community served; resources, residents and problems of the area served and basic recordkeeping principles and practices.

Skill/Ability to:
Exercise good judgment and tact; relate and communicate effectively with residents of the community served; function as a team member and to benefit from supervision and training; interpret agency programs and policies to members of the community served; write clear and comprehensive reports; analyze problems, formulate plans and put them into effect with a minimum of supervision and stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift and carry equipment and supplies used in the course of the work.
