The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position to perform a variety of professional duties in support of water resources planning efforts to include long range water supply planning; and to participate in water supply studies and assist in securing and maintaining sufficient water supplies to meet demand needs. This position will be filled at the appropriate level (Analyst I,II, or Senior) based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Water Resource Analyst I/II are non-exempt and Water Resource Analyst Senior is an exempt position and part of the IBEW Administrative, Technical, Clerical Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Water Resources Analyst I/II/Senior vacancies within the District that may occur through January 14, 2027.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Water Resources Analyst I - This is the entry level class in the Water Resources Analyst series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Water Resources Analyst I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under general supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.

Water Resources Analyst II - This is the journey level class in the Water Resources Analyst series and is distinguished from the Water Resources Analyst I by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction of assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level.
This class is distinguished from the Senior Water Resources Analyst in that the latter is responsible for providing technical and functional supervision and/or performing the most complex tasks.

Water Resources Analyst Senior - This is the advanced journey level in the Water Resources Analyst series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, by the amount of time spent performing the duties, and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, including providing technical and/or functional supervision over assigned personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Water Resources Analyst I : Receives general supervision from a higher-level supervisor or manager; may receive technical and functional supervision from the Senior Water Resources Analyst.

Water Resources Analyst II : Receives direction from a higher-level supervisor or manager; may receive technical and functional supervision from the Senior Water Resources Analyst.
Water Resources Analyst Senior:
Receives direction from a higher-level supervisor or manager. Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned professional, technical and clerical personnel.

Water Resources Analyst I

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : One year of professional water resources planning experience.

Education : Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in Environmental Studies, Economics, Engineering or a related field.

Knowledge of :

Ability to :

Special Requirement : Must have a valid Class C driver’s license at the time of appointment.

Water Resources Analyst II

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : Three years of progressively responsible experience similar to Water Resources Analyst I with the District.

Training : Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in Environmental Studies, Economics, Engineering or a related field.

In addition to the qualifications for the Water Resources Analyst I:
