The Position

The Public Works Department is seeking experienced individuals to fill one (1) Facilities Maintenance Supervisor position in Martinez, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified facilities maintenance personnel to assume the challenge and responsibility of a supervisory role. Under general direction, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor has responsibility for planning, coordinating and directing, and monitoring staff performing preventive maintenance and repair work; including, but not limited to hazardous materials programs and work activities at county buildings and general facilities. In addition to having knowledge of local, county, state, and federal regulations and industry codes, a thorough knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, and practices used in maintaining and repairing structures, utility systems, electronic, and traffic signals is needed to be successful in this supervisory role.

The employment list established by this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

The eligible list created from this recruitment will be used for Public Works, but also may be used to fill vacancies in other Contra Costa County Departments.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out-of-state, valid motor operator's license will be accepted during the application process.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience, or its equivalent, performing maintenance/repair work in a major facility. One (1) year of the required experience must have included supervisory experience as a lead worker or higher in one of the following areas: carpentry, heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, electrical systems, electronic systems, painting, plumbing, or steam-fitting.

Selection Process

1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

2. Online Virtual Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an interview. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. In the assessment, candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies and an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These may include, but are not limited to: Professional and Technical Expertise; Decision Making; Adaptability; Handling Stress; Project Management; and Oral Communication (Weighted 100%)

The Online Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely) between February 24, 2026, and March 2, 2026.

Candidates are not permitted to retake the same assessment within a six (6) month period. If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within six (6) months of the date you took the test this time, you will not have the option to re-take the exam.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
