The Job

The Auditor-Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector (ATC) is recruiting for ATC Payroll Technicians to perform specialized and complex fiscal clerical duties in payroll processing. Duties include auditing time sheets, warrants, and other fiscal documents for the County payroll system; guiding department payroll specialists to ensure accurate payroll inputs; explaining payroll laws and procedures to the public and department representatives; and preparing and reviewing payrolls involving a variety of rules and regulations governing the computation of pay and benefits that require interpretation of personnel rules, collective bargaining agreements, and benefit plans.

Payroll Technicians who possess the Fundamental Payroll Certification issued by PayrollOrg are entitled to a 5% payroll differential for all hours actually worked.

Minimum Requirements

CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENT:

EXPERIENCE

Must possess three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience processing payroll that includes calculating pay and deductions OR reviewing, reconciling, and maintaining fiscal/accounting records.

SUBSTITUTION
Six (6) semester (9 quarter) units of completed college coursework in accounting, math, and/or business administration may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience. (Transcripts MUST be attached.)

EDUCATION
(Substitution)
Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Selection Process

Examination Procedure :

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online assessment. The assessment will consist of an evaluation of skills and knowledge in the following areas (practice materials not available):

Fiscal Concepts and Arithmetic
