Description
DescriptionUnder general supervision, performs semi-skilled to skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the Town’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Is responsible for receiving and carrying out work assignments under the guidance of a Utilities Field Technician I or II. Reports to the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated)REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Graduation from high school.
- One (1) year of experience in various fields of utility maintenance or construction labor work; or closely related field.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : - Experience in water distribution and wastewater collection systems and/or operating automotive or other motorized maintenance and construction equipment preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Driver's license must not have been suspended within five (5) years of the date of this application (Not Insurance related ).
- Ability to obtain Level "III" Water Distribution license from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Class "C" wastewater collection system from a Florida approved agency within three (3) years of employment.
- Ability to obtain, within one (1) year of employment, a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :- Possession of a level "III" water distribution license from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and a Class "C" wastewater collection system from a Florida approved agency.
- Class "B" Commercial Driver's License ( CDL) issued by the State of Florida.
- Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements.
Essential Functions- Installs, maintains, repairs and replaces water and sewer lines and auxiliary fixtures such as hydrants, meters and valves; repairs adjacent landscape or roadways at completion of project.
- Cleans joints, gaskets and ends of pipes; repairs leaks or breaks on all sizes of water and wastewater lines; clears around holes after repairs.
- Locates and exposes utility services in order to prevent damages to equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; maintains inventory of tools and supplies on service truck.
- Responds to service calls and checks water and sewer lines and fixtures for proper functioning.
- Reads blueprints and engineering schematics to locate water and sewer lines and fixtures; checks water sewer lines for breaks and infiltration through the use of flow meters, dye tests, smoke tests, etc.
- Raises, replaces and repairs meter boxes and valve boxes.
- Answers customer complaints, locates service lines, detects leaks, excavates and repairs service lines.
- Taps new water and sewer lines into existing lines.
- Drives truck and operates high pressure cleaning equipment and/or rodding machine for cleaning manholes and sewer lines.
- Operates backhoe and related heavy equipment used in water and sewer line repair and maintenance. rates air hammer to break asphalt and pavement; repairs asphalt and pavement.
- Operates a variety of pumping equipment and generators. Loads and unloads pipes at storage area and work sites.
- May keep written documentation of work hours performed and materials used.
- Performs other related work as required.
Supplemental Information Current Incentives/Benefits: - Incentive: $100/pay period
- Additional incentives:
- $1000 - paid out in December 2026 (prorated based on hire date)
- $1000 - paid out in June 2026 (prorated based on hire date)
- Health Insurance
- 100% paid by the Town for single coverage, 50% paid by the Town for dependents.
- Leave:
- Holidays - 13 days per year.
- Sick Leave - 3.69 hours accrued per pay period
- Vacation Leave - Accrue 2 weeks per year, accrual rate increases every 5 years (capped at 4 weeks after 10 years of service).
- Birthday Leave - 1 day per year after successfully passing probation
- Quality Service - 1 day per year after successfully passing probation and other conditions.
- Wellness Days - 2 days per year after successfully passing probation.
- Pension/Retirement:
- Town Sponsored Pension - mandatory 3% contributions per pay period.
- 457 Deferred Compensation Plan - Employee is entitled to make voluntary contributions through the payroll to the Town sponsored 457 deferred compensation plan only.
- Uniforms: Provided by the Department.
