Job Summary: Responsible for providing moderate to complex professional technical inspection work to ensure compliance with adopted ordinances. Performs intermediate to complex field and office work in enforcing a wide variety of municipal codes and ordinances. Investigates complaints, determines the existence and extent of violations, seeks voluntary compliance, and prepares and executes formal enforcement actions, including citations and abatement procedures. This is a full-performance level classification, performing duties with limited supervision.
Code Enforcement Officers are responsible for promoting and ensuring compliance with the City's municipal codes and ordinances, including property maintenance, zoning, land use, public nuisance, and health and safety regulations. This is achieved through proactive patrols, complaint-based investigations, public education, and administrative or legal enforcement action. The progression from Level 1 (I) to Level 3 (III) typically reflects increasing responsibility, complexity of assigned projects, and a higher degree of independent judgment and technical expertise.
Qualifications• High school diploma or GED equivalent. • Associate or bachelor’s degree in applied sciences, public administration, or related field is preferred. • Two (2) years of experience in construction, vocational, or related field. • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered. • Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets City guidelines.
