POSITION OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The Airport Operations Center (IAH - AOC) supports George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) airport, within the Houston Airport System (HAS). The goal of the IAH - AOC is to provide efficiency through a single point of contact for Operations, Security, Maintenance, and Information/Customer Service.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION :
The Airport Communications Operator is responsible for operating communication equipment to receive, assess, and dispatch both emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance at the airport. This role handles public paging and informational calls, monitors multiple alarm systems, and coordinates responses to a wide range of situations, including aircraft emergencies, terminal or roadway incidents, fires, bomb threats, security concerns, facility maintenance issues, Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) alarms, and gate assignment requests. The operator plays a critical role in ensuring timely communication and coordination across airport operations. requests, Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) trouble alarms, and terminal gate requests for coordination/assignments.

"Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required." The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in a major airport terminal handling a variety of communication activities or in a related major facility handling a variety of communication equipment is required.

PREFERENCES

Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in a medium to high volume dispatch, communications, or call center preferred. CCTV experience a plus. The ability to monitor multiple screens is highly desirable. A certification in one of the following areas of expertise preferred, NIMS IS-100, NIMS IS-200, TCLEOSE or TCOLE Certification, A.A.A.E ACE Certification. Proficient in MS Outlook preferred. MS Office Suite a plus.
