Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is a full-service, all-hazards district that operates with a highly trained team of more than 670 firefighters and professional staff, responding from 37 strategically placed fire stations across 582 square miles. We are further supported by elite teams, including FEMA Urban Search & Rescue, Cal OES hazardous materials response, a Type 2IA hand crew, and a paramedic on every response unit.

Behind every response is the vital work of our Regional Fire and EMS Communications Center, robust training and wellness programs, and the committed professionals in fleet services, administration, and prevention. Our proactive Fire Prevention Bureau plays a key role in investigations, public education, plan review, and code enforcement-ensuring safety before the emergency ever begins.

The Fiscal Officer will work under the general direction of the Chief of Administrative Services, managing and overseeing the department’s financial operations. This pivotal role includes providing financial direction for the department, ensuring that all fiscal activities align with strategic objectives and comply with regulatory standards. The Fiscal Officer will contribute significantly to budgeting, monitoring, financial reporting, procurement, and expenditure tracking.

The Eligible List created from this recruitment will be used for CCCFPD, but also may be used to fill vacancies in other Contra Costa County Departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, public administration, accounting, economics, finance, or a closely related field.

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a managerial or an accounting position performing fiscal or budgetary analysis, at least two years of which must have included responsibility for budget preparations and control.

Selection Process

1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
2. Online Virtual Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online interview. In the oral interview, candidates must achieve an overall passing score of 70% or higher. The interview will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Departmental Fiscal Officer position. These may include, but are not limited to: Analyzing & Interpreting Data, Delivering Results, Innovative Problem Solving, Displaying Ownership and Accountability, Professional Integrity & Ethics, Informing, Building & Maintaining Relationships, and/or Leadership. (Weighted 100%)

The Online Assessment is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely) between January 16-22, 2025.

Candidates are not permitted to retake the same assessment within a six (6) month period. If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within six (6) months of the date you took the test this time, you will not have the option to re-take the exam.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
