Description

Vacancy is in the Health and Human Services Department. Under supervision, assists in the city-wide sanitation and rodent control program by inspecting, baiting, trapping and gassing rodent burrows. Inspects all waste collection facilities, in an assigned area to determine that such facilities conform to all applicable Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. Investigates problems of yard and street litter. Assists in the maintenance of commercially and privately-owned waste collection facilities. Investigates and reports on complaints of tenants and landlords concerning violations of Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. I dentifies and reports abandoned cars, trucks, and other abandoned vehicles. Discusses and reviews proper and modern methods of waste storage with citizens. Investigates and condemns defective waste storage facilities and makes recommendations for their replacement. Investigates sanitary conditions around public and private buildings and streets and assists in maintaining public health standards.

This is a 1716 union position. The hours of work for this position are 40 per week.

Qualifications

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:

Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency AND one (1) year of experience in waste collection, rodent control, customer service, maintenance work, custodial services or a related field.

Special Requirement:

Must possess a valid State of Connecticut driver's license. A copy of your valid driver's license must be submitted with your application.

State of Connecticut Pesticide Supervisory Certification in Pesticide category 7D preferred.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
