ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Vector Control Officer I/II position. This position implements plans to control and eliminate harmful insect, pest and weed infestations throughout the County; assists in the identification of vector-borne disease potential and the implementation of practices for their control.

Vector Control Officer I: $24.14 - 35.62 Hourly
Vector Control Officer II: $26.00 - 38.46 Hourly

The Vector Control Officer I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Vector Control Officer II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Vector Control Officer I - Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time experience in vegetation management with herbicides/pest control/vector control or related experience, which has included the safe application and/or handling of pesticides.

Vector Control Officer II - In addition to the above, one (1) year of full-time experience in vector control.

Working Conditions: Work with exposure to potentially hazardous herbicides and pesticides. Wear self-contained breathing equipment. Work with exposure to animals, insects and/or noxious plants.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess a valid State of Nevada Governmental License to apply pesticides prior to appointment or advancement to the II level.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. A respirator test is part of the exam.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment and to drive motor vehicles to perform inspections and apply pesticides; strength to lift materials weighing up to 70 pounds; stamina to walk over extended periods and difficult terrain; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
