Workdays & Hours: Monday - Thursday/6:00 AM - 4:30 PM*
*Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Oversee and assist Cement Finishing Projects and personnel to construct, repair, and maintain various hard surfaces. This individual will oversee, participate with a team of 3-5 permanent employees to complete concrete repairs. Document work orders needed to maintain various records including statistics of labor, material and equipment resources on work executed. Perform preventative maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools and is held accountable for equipment.
Observe safety regulations and ensure that the crew does the same. Perform other duties and activities that may be required during operation.
- Prepares work sites by setting forms and batching concrete to construct and/or repair sidewalks, driveways, and street cuts.
- Finishes concrete slabs by spreading, bull floating, troweling, edging, and sweeping.
- Cures concrete forms to complete setting process.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas.
- Replaces landscaping occasionally.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long period of time.
This is a Houston Public Works Department Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in cement or concrete finishing work is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Class C Driver’s license and comply with COH policy on driving. Depending on assigned duties, may require a valid Class A, B, or C Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants with survey and concrete repair experience.
