The Senior Parts Specialist is responsible for managing and controlling the parts room inventory to support the City’s diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. This includes determining the appropriate quantity, cost and type of parts to stock and ensuring availability for scheduled services. This position oversees the accurate and timely processing of system workflows, including item requests, work order charges, purchase orders, and expense reports, and provides input on bid processes to ensure cost-effective purchasing. The Specialist coordinates closely with technicians, supervisors, and other departments to maintain operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of five years’ experience in managing a +$250K vehicle/equipment parts and materials inventory, including acquisition and purchasing processes is required. Demonstrated progressive experience in the acquisition of automotive and heavy truck parts is also required, with equivalent experience using FASTER or a comparable computerized inventory/fleet management system. Mechanical experience with both on-road and off-road equipment is preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, supplemented by specialized training in computerized inventory control systems.

Licenses and Certifications:A valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record is required. Forklift Certification and ASE P1- Medium-Heavy Parts Specialist and P2- Automotive Parts Specialist certifications must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Environmental or Physical Demands: Routinely performs medium-to-heavy physical work in a repair-shop environment with routine exposure to noise, dust, oils/greases, exhaust and chemicals, frequent standing/walking on hard surfaces, regular lifting and carrying of automotive/heavy parts, repetitive reaching (including overhead), ladder/rolling-stair use to access high shelving, frequent push/pull of carts and pallets, and periodic power-industrial truck (forklift/pallet jack) operation. Work may occur in temperature-variable shop spaces.
