Scheduled Salary Increases: 1% effective 11/10/25 (Agricultural/Standards Specialist: $64,012 - $81,718 Annually)
1% effective 11/10/25 (Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist: $71,890 - $91,728 Annually)
The
Fresno County Department of Agriculture invites applications for the positions of
Agricultural/Standards Specialist and Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist. Incumbents conduct inspections and enforce provisions of various state codes and applicable Fresno County ordinances. Incumbents also advise and disseminate regulatory information to the public, private industry, government agencies, and special interest groups.
Agricultural/Standards Specialists protect Fresno County's agricultural industry and the consumer by performing environmental protection and pest management activities, pest detection and exclusion activities, and quality/standards inspections of agricultural commodities produced in Fresno County.

Minimum QualificationsPursuant to the California Code of Regulations, Title 3, Section 105 and the California Food and Agriculture Code Section 2106, this position requires the following education:
Agricultural/Standards Specialist Education : Possession of a bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, chemical, or physical sciences or any major approved by the California Secretary of Agriculture that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
OR
Possession of a bachelor’s degree that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system with a minimum of thirty (30) semester units or equivalent, in one or any combination of the following disciplines: agricultural sciences, biological sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and/or statistics.
Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Provisional Agricultural/Standards Specialist with the County of Fresno.
License : Possession of the three (3) valid licenses as shown below, issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.
Possession of a Class “A” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist Education : Possession of a bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, chemical, or physical sciences or any major approved by the California Secretary of Agriculture that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
OR
Possession of a bachelor’s degree that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system with a minimum of thirty (30) semester units, or equivalent, in one or any combination of the following disciplines: agricultural sciences, biological sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and/or statistics.
Experience : Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained with the County of Fresno as an Agricultural/Standards Specialist, including experience gained at the provisional level.
License : Possession of six (6) valid licenses issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Of the six (6), three (3) are required licenses as shown below. The other three (3) licenses will be from the optional list of licenses shown below. Two (2) of the licenses from the optional list are required to be Weights and Measures licenses.

SELECTION PROCESS: Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
Please Note: - The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions.
- Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by Fresno County Personnel Rules.
