Appellate Counsel Department of RevenueDOR VISION: To establish an environment that fosters confidence and trust by successfully utilizing technology, employing resources, and meeting customer needs HOW THIS POSITION SUPPORTS THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION: The General Counsel’s Office is now hiring for the position of Appellate Counsel. This grant funded position handles alcohol related driver license appeals in the Eastern, Western, and Southern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals. The attorney in this role will be responsible for drafting briefs, participating in oral arguments, and conducting research. Additionally, the attorney in this role will teach DWI case law, and will work with the General Counsel and Attorney General’s Office to develop the Department’s overall vision for appellate strategy. Significant subject-matter training will be provided. This role best fits an individual who enjoys working independently. Opportunities for a flexible schedule are available. The Department of Revenue is a qualifying Public Service Loan Forgiveness employer.
DUTIES PERFORMED TO SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION: - Represent the Department on appeals of alcohol-related driver license issues
- Serve as liaison with the Attorney General’s Office to develop appeal strategies
- Legal research and writing
- Teach DWI case law updates for law enforcement officers and attorneys (occasional travel required)
- Maintain strong familiarity with Missouri Supreme Court Rules and appellate procedures

QUALIFICATIONS: - Missouri Bar license in good standing

- Relevant experience is valued, but not required
