DescriptionTHIS POSTING MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME ONCE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.The Network Engineer I is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, telephone systems, UPS units, and structured cabling systems. This entry-level position plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of the organization's network operations.
Working under the guidance of senior network engineers and in collaboration with IT teams, the Network Engineer I assists in monitoring network performance, diagnosing connectivity issues, implementing solutions, and documenting network configurations. This role also contributes to ongoing projects aimed at improving network efficiency, reliability, and security.
Success in this position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and a proactive willingness to learn and grow within the field of networking.
Examples of Duties- Installs and configures network devices, including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and UPS units.
- Troubleshoots connectivity issues and resolves network-related service requests.
- Monitors network performance and ensures uptime for critical systems.
- Supports infrastructure projects like network upgrades, security improvements, and system migrations.
- Coordinates with vendors, IT teams, and end-users for new deployments.
- Performs routine maintenance and updates, including firmware and patches.
- Assists in network upgrades and migrations, logging network changes, and updating ticketing systems.
- Verifies network security controls and access permissions.
- Updates network diagrams and inventory.
- Manages access control systems, including granting user permissions, configuring door schedules, and ensuring proper system functionality.
- Configures telephone systems, including setting up voice mail boxes, extensions, trunks, and related configurations.
- Responds to system alerts and automated notifications.
- Stays current with new technologies and industry trends and participates in process improvement discussions.
- Be available for on-call coverage and execute after-hours maintenance to minimize business disruption.
- Displays and reflects the culture, mission, vision, values, and direction of the department.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- CompTIA Network, CompTIA Security+, and BICSI Installer 1 or 2 Certification are preferred.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is required. Must obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
- Must not have any Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
