A Consumer Health Customer Service Supervisor job is available with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department Consumer Health Division. The Consumer Health Division performs comprehensive consumer and environmental health work, including the issuance of health permits, review of building plans, and conducting routine health inspections of food establishments, childcare centers, public pools, food trucks, hotels, and temporary events.
The Consumer Health Customer Service Supervisor oversees a team consisting of Customer Service Representative IIs and a Senior Customer Service Representative. This role manages the team's daily operations, including processing health permit payments and registering participants for food handler, child-care worker, and pool operator courses. The supervisor ensures front office staff follow established protocols, such as balancing daily revenue, verifying paperwork for new accounts, and maintaining accurate records for active, new, and closed accounts. In addition, the position reviews paperwork submitted by inspectors related to new business applications, complaint investigations, plan reviews, and business closures to confirm that accurate information is entered into the database. The supervisor also coordinates activities with other divisions, outside agencies, and the public, while providing high-level support and assistance to senior management.
Minimum Qualifications: - HS Diploma/GED
- At least four (4) years of responsible customer service experience, including at least one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications: - Preference will be given to applicants who have Spanish/English bilingual skills
The Customer Service Supervisor job responsibilities include: - Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operational activities for customer services in support of Consumer Health. Responds to customer inquiries or complaints.
- Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities. Recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures.
- Identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; and implements improvements.
- Directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned customer services and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; and meets with employees to identify and resolve problems.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness of assigned programs, methods, and procedures, and work with employees on the continuous improvement of programs and services.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints; provides information to stakeholders and community members; responds to internal and external customer service requests; provides support for local, state, and federal enforcement agencies; and works closely with other departments to provide outstanding customer service.
- Participates in the development and administration of the assigned program budget. Forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; and recommends adjustments as necessary.
- Provides staff assistance to assigned managerial staff; participates in a variety of committees; and prepares and presents staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings and stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of customer services.
- Acts as Consumer Health liaison to city commissions, associations, and organizations. Prepares and submits reports with analysis to senior management; and prepares reports for evaluation of programs.

Physical Demand Sedentary Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
