POSITION OVERVIEWAccepting Applications From: All Persons InterestedPN: 37011Division: Environmental Health Section: Bureau of Community and Children's Environmental Health Location: 9250 Kirby Dr., Houston, TX. 77054 Workdays & Hours: Mon - Fri, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM* *Subject to Change The incumbent will manage administrative tasks such as handling requests, meeting arrangements, preparing reports, updating housing and family details in the database, providing support, acting as a point of contact for clients, and maintaining a proper filling system for multiple grant records.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Handling routine administrative tasks, preparing reports, arranging meetings and serving as point of contact for internal and external clients.
- Entering applicants’ information and maintaining database records, generating case numbers and assignment for inspections.
- Compiles and processes data to maintain routine reports, prepares periodic reports. Duties also include organizing and maintaining record keeping, researching and preparing simple reports.
- Answering phone calls, recording messages and disseminates to the appropriate party. Resolves client’s questions refers questions with policy and procedure implications to supervisor.
- Organize and maintain physical record and proper case filing for multiple grants.
- Performs clerical duties as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditioning.
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasionally very light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper (up to 20 pounds or equivalent weight) may be required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of administrative or customer service related experience are required.
Substitution: An Associate's degree may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience.

PREFERENCES**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
- Experience working in Public Health and with the community.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUNDED Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
