A Housing Rehabilitation Technician I - Weatherization Program job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department at Hazel Harvey Peace Center for Neighborhoods. The Weatherization program within Neighborhood Services provides home improvements to low-income households that reduces energy usage and increases energy efficiency of homes. This position will contribute to the City's strategic goals, mission and vision by inspecting housing units for weatherization related issues, providing appropriate repair recommendations, preparing work estimates, overseeing construction work, and issuing final inspections. Technicians will use computers/tablets and software in the office and in the field to conduct their work.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School diploma/GED
- One (1) year of experience related to residential inspections, development inspections, or construction.
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a housing rehabilitation program
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of residential construction
- Experience working with construction or home improvement companies
- Experience working with computer-based software applications
- Experience providing customer service to program applicants
The Housing Rehabilitation Technician I job responsibilities include: - Answers phone calls and responds to applicant questions and complaints, assists applicants with completing necessary forms.
- Assists in surveying and inspecting dwelling units.
- Recognizes health and safety deficiencies in utility systems, structural systems, exterior housing units and other violations of the Minimum Building Standards Code and Energy Codes.
- Writes clear and concise work specifications.
- Calculates rehabilitation cost estimates.
- Reviews all components of the estimation and bid process, participates in verifying that contractor bids coincide with money allocated, ensures no unapproved changes were made
- Monitors rehabilitation work in progress.
- Communicates with applicants regarding repairs to be made and warranties.
- Assists in performing final inspections, identifies additional items to be replaced or repaired, determines payment date.
- Prepares and maintains housing rehabilitation inspection reports.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions.
Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
