Grounds Maintenance Worker (Litter Patrol)
Description
Job SummaryUnder direct supervision, operates a variety of automotive and light maintenance and construction equipment; performs numerous maintenance and construction tasks.
Performs litter patrol duties Citywide on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and performs litter patrol duties in Uptown Greenville on Saturdays and Sundays.
Qualified applicants must be able and available to work the Wednesday through Sunday working schedule as shown below:
- Off Monday and Tuesday
- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (as needed)
FLSA position status: Non-exempt
Examples of Duties• Operates a variety of light-duty trucks.
• Operates a variety of lawn tractors, tractor mowers, and motor mowers.
• Operates other light-duty motorized equipment as assigned.
• Transports work crews and equipment to and from work sites.
• Serves as a member of the litter patrol crew.
• Picks up and delivers a variety of materials and supplies.
• Assists in loading and unloading equipment and supplies.
• Washes, greases, services, and makes minor adjustments to equipment.
• Performs a variety of manual labor tasks.
• Operates more complex equipment on a training or limited basis.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.
• Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
• Meet the mental and physical demands of the job.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:• Ability to read and write sufficiently to complete required tasks (high school diploma or GED preferred); and
• At least one year of experience operating required equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:
• Traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and the precautions needed to avoid accidents.
• The occupational hazards and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of automotive and motorized equipment.
• The methods and materials used in servicing and operation of light-duty vehicles and motorized equipment.
Skilled in:
• The operation of light-duty vehicles and motorized equipment.
Ability to:
• Recognize and report abnormal operating functions of equipment.
• Perform strenuous work.
• Withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Prepare simple records.
Special RequirementsValid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.
