Apply by: September 17, 2025The Missouri Department of Mental Health’s Division of Developmental Disabilities (DD) is seeking a dynamic, results-driven leader to serve as Assistant Superintendent for the St. Louis Developmental Disabilities Treatment Centers (SLDDTC). This key leadership position oversees the St. Charles Habilitation Center and the South County Habilitation Center-two campuses providing 24-hour residential habilitation and health services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This is more than a management position-it is an opportunity to shape service delivery, ensure safety and compliance, and lead a multidisciplinary team dedicated to enhancing quality of life for the individuals we support. This position is benefit eligible and will primarily work 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with on-call responsibilities to meet operational needs and have Saturday/Sunday and holidays as regular days off; however, schedule flexibility is necessary.
Job Duties:This is a high-level management position which reports to the Superintendent and requires: Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving, and communication skills; ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A deep understanding of best practices in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, fiscal and regulatory compliance, and crisis management. Organizational and programmatic management experience, including development and revision of policies and procedures; and development/oversight of employee training, administering employee discipline and conducting professional development meetings. The successful candidate will possess effective leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills and ability to manage complex projects.
The position is responsible for: - Strategic Leadership - Direct day-to-day operations across two campuses, ensuring high-quality, person-centered care.
- Clinical & Operational Oversight - Lead and supervise professional clinicians, support staff, and direct care staff across all aspects of residential and habilitative services.
- Crisis Response - Provide oversite and monitor a crisis unit to address temporary behavioral needs.
- Workforce Management - Ensure appropriate staffing ratios; recruit, mentor, and develop employees; promote a positive, accountable workplace culture.
- Regulatory Excellence - Guarantee compliance with all Federal, State, and DMH regulations, as well as ICF/IID standards.
- Policy & Program Development - Lead initiatives for policy revision, program improvement, and system efficiencies. Ability to initiate a solid Plan of Action to include completion and monitoring needs.
- 24/7 On-Call Leadership - Serve as primary designee for the Superintendent when unavailable.
Eligibility Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of professional relevant experience in mental health, education, social services, public administration or a closely related area and 2-5 years of supervising experience.
Current DMH employees will not be eligible to apply if they have received a disciplinary action within the last 6 months.
