POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
The Butte College Police Department is seeking a dedicated Police Officer to make a positive impact in our community. Reporting to the Chief of Police, you will protect life and property, both on and near District property, as well as responding to emergencies, and engaging in proactive policing.

Work ScheduleHours vary depending on need, schedule could be four 10-hours shifts or every day 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (or even 5:00 p.m.) or an evening shift 1:00 p.m. (or 3:00 p.m.) to 11:00 p.m.
Salary DetailsSalary Range 1 - $69,363.43 - $84,623.46 per year (POST Basic Certification required)
Salary Range 2 - $70,750.68 - $86,315.96 per year (POST Intermediate Certification required)
Salary Range 3 - $72,137.95 - $88,008.45 per year (POST Advanced Certification required)
Salary Range 4 - $73,525.22 - $89,700.91 per year (POST Supervisory Certification required)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or the equivalent; AND
- Graduation from a P.O.S.T. certified basic police academy; AND
- Possession of a California Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate (“Lateral”), a California P.O.S.T. Basic Course Waiver Certificate or have successfully completed a P.O.S.T.-Certified Requalification Course within the previous three (3) years*.
* If you are a Peace Officer from out-of-state, you must be in possession of a “Basic Course Waiver (BCW)” issued by the California commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Please visit https://post.ca.gov/ for more information.
Certificates/Licenses/And Other Requirements:
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout duration of employment with the District.
- Hold and maintain valid First Aid/CPR certificates throughout duration of employment with the District.
- Hold and maintain POST certification throughout duration of Employment with the District.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment questionnaire, psychological screening, drug testing, physical examination, fingerprint investigation, and motor vehicle screening.
- Be free of any felony conviction and certain misdemeanor convictions.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
- Education Code § 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that they are free of active tuberculosis.
- As a condition of employment, the District requires that you provide fingerprints prior to beginning work. You may be fingerprinted at Butte College Human Resources by appointment, or you may be fingerprinted at another agency. Should you be fingerprinted at another agency, the rolling fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility at the time of printing.
