Position Description

This advertisement is to create a list that will be used to fill Fleet Services Parts Technician vacancies for the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities for a period of one year. You will play a crucial role in ensuring your department is always ready to respond and serve its citizen by managing the procurement and inventory of parts and services for fleet equipment. The job classification of Fleet Services Parts Technician is classified and represented by WSCCE Local 120.

As part of Fleet Services, the Parts Technician supports the City of Tacoma's transportation requirements by managing a safe, efficient, cost-effective, and diversified fleet of vehicles and construction equipment, including solid waste and landfill equipment, fire apparatus, and power, water, and rail equipment. Tacoma Fire Department: We protect people, property, and the environment, and professionally and compassionately serve the community. The Fire & Marine Shop is the primary maintenance shop for Tacoma Fire’s apparatus and equipment.

Public Works Department: We provide essential public services by designing, building, maintaining, and preserving public infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for the people of Tacoma in a fair, responsive, sustainable, and equitable manner. The Fleet Operations facility is the primary maintenance shop for the City's vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Annex shop, located at the City's solid waste facility, maintains the heavy-duty refuse fleet.
Tacoma Power: We provide electric, water, and rail service to the city of Tacoma, Fircrest, University Place, Fife, parts of Steilacoom, Lakewood, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and unincorporated Pierce County as far south as Roy.

Key Responsibilities: Pay Details:
Hourly Rate: $36.09 - $39.78

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to :

Graduation from high school

AND

Two (2) years of experience involving inventory control and purchase of parts and supplies in an automotive or distribution facility .

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
A valid Washington State driver's license

Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
