Program Administrator - Office of Childhood
Description
Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Why you’ll love this position: This Office of Childhood provides a comprehensive approach to childhood care and education in Missouri. It includes programs related to child care, home visiting, early learning, and early intervention for children birth to age five, as well as afterschool programs for school-age children. The Office of Childhood is responsible for overseeing DESE’s efforts to expand and improve high-quality early learning opportunities.
- Coordinate key day-to-day management of projects and activities in the Office of Childhood.
- Assist the Assistant Commissioner with the direction and supervision of professional and support staff in the Office of Childhood.
- Promote collaboration across all levels of the office.
- Assist with development and implementation of federal and state regulations, including state budgets, annual performance reports, policies and program evaluation related to childhood programs.
- Inform the Assistant Commissioner in the implementation of policies and monitoring the effectiveness of such policies.
- Assist in planning and making recommendations to the Assistant Commissioner concerning improvements in all phases of the office’s childhood programs.
- Promote equitable access to high-quality early learning opportunities.
- Promote the use of inclusive practices and settings.
- Assist the Assistant Commissioner with providing information on childhood issues to the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, and the State Board of Education.
- Facilitate providing professional development, technical assistance, and resource sharing across childhood settings.
- Maintain partnerships with various internal and external stakeholder groups on initiatives related to childhood programs, including federal, state, and local educational agencies.
- Keep up to date on childhood issues and trends at the state and national level.
- Maintain familiarity with policy and legislative processes related to childhood programs.
- Serve on state and national committees as assigned.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.

Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in business, education, social/human services, or a closely related field with one or more years in a leadership or supervisory position.
OR - Five or more years of professional or technical experience in administration, education, social/human services, or closely relate field, or other experience that contributes directly to the understanding of activities of this assignment; with one or more years in a leadership or supervisory position.
