Effective July 12, 2025, this position will receive a 2% cost-of-living increase

THE POSITIONThis is an exciting opportunity to join a growing city with many development opportunities on the horizon and to lead and develop both experienced professionals and new talent.The City Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all citywide engineering functions. The position will be a part of the Community Development Department, but will coordinate projects with City departments, outside agencies, and organizations which include land development, stormwater management, traffic design, pavement management, street improvements, lighting, facilities, and construction of capital projects. The City Engineer will review and approve engineering plans for subdivisions, use permits, and encroachment permits and supervise and review the work of assigned personnel. The City Engineer will also perform advanced-level professional engineering work. This position also functions as the Deputy Director of Community Development and assists in short- and long-term program planning, development, and the administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services. Additionally, the position will provide direct oversight to approximately six professional and technical staff members.IDEAL CANDIDATEIn addition to strong technical skills, the ideal candidate will:

 

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIESIn addition to overseeing private development project review, the City Engineer will be integral in the annual update of the City's 5 year Capital Improvement Plan, and will also be integral in the execution of the public projects within that Plan. These public projects include, but are not limited to, citywide roadway rehabilitation and maintenance, improvements to the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area, Monument Springs Bridge construction project, roadway bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements, and the Whitney Community Park Bicycle Pump Track project.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

 

 

Ability to:

 

 

Education and Experience

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field;

 

AND

 

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience as a licensed civil engineer, including at least two (2) years of supervisory or management experience over professional and technical engineer staff.
