Job Summary

The City of Olathe is seeking an Automated Traffic Maintenance System (ATMS) Technician to join our dynamic Transportation team.

In this exciting role, you will focus on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems that enhance traffic flow. This includes working with traffic signal systems, traffic sensors, communication networks, and central control systems. Additionally, you will analyze traffic data to develop solutions for congestion and safety challenges and manage projects related to traffic management systems.

Candidates may qualify at either level listed below.

ATMS Technician I (Entry-level)

Preferred Experience: A minimum of one year of similar work experience is required. Candidates should possess analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues and should exhibit proficiency in the specific software used to manage and control the ATMS, including features like real-time monitoring, incident management, and adaptive signal control. A strong understanding of traffic signal systems, communication networks, and relevant software is preferred.


ATMS Technician II

Preferred Experience: A minimum of three years of similar work experience is required. Candidates should have strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues and show proficiency is the specific software used to manage and control the ATMS, including features like real-time monitoring, incident management, and adaptive signal control. A strong understanding of traffic signal systems, communication networks, and relevant software is preferred.

Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Experience: 1 years of similar work experience required.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Licenses and Certificates: Ability to possess of an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I Transportation Center System Specialist certificate and Work Zone certification within 1-year of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License within 6 months of employment.
