Library Aide (PT) - Civic Center
Description
IntroductionJoin the Scottsdale Public Library family! We are looking for a dynamic, self-starter with strong customer service skills to join the Circulation team at the Civic Center Library. The ideal candidate is a creative person who loves to interact with library users of all ages. Responsibilities include working service desks, answering patron questions and recommending resources, handling cash, answering calls in the Library Help Line, and participating in Library System events.
This position includes the Backup Library Courier Assignment. Key responsibilities are driving a motor vehicle, delivering books and other materials to and from branches, and lifting and carrying crates filled with materials or move library furniture weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance from furniture dollies and book carts.
In addition, this Library Aide is expected to temporarily work (float) at other library branches when vacancies arise and return to Civic Center Library when not deployed. Reliable transportation is necessary.
Library Aides work a varying schedule that includes evenings and weekends. This position works 25 hours a week, 4 days/week, and either Saturday or Sunday. Typical shifts are Sundays 12-5p, Mon-Thu 8a-3p/11a-7p, Fri-Sat 8a-6p. Only those candidates who are willing and able to work a flexible schedule will be considered to move forward in the selection process.
Please note: Effective June 15, 2025, the salary range for this position will be $18.58 - $25.11. Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $21.84/hour.Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
- Two years college work completed.
- One year of public contact experience resolving various levels of customer service needs.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
Essential FunctionsPerforms duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
- Performs various library work functions on the library computer system.
- Processes cash, check, and credit card payments for overdue fines, Library Shop merchandise, and other miscellaneous costs in an accurate manner.
- Works with customers to assist with self-check circulation, call center, triage, and/or drive-up service window or other service points to answer questions.
- Retrieves library materials from book drops located in various sites.
- Lifts and carries heavy library materials between building and motor vehicle.
- Drives a motor vehicle to transport and deliver library materials between libraries and other jurisdictions.
- Follows directions, reads maps, and performs work under time schedule.
Work Environment/Physical Demands- Bends, stoops, and lifts arms above shoulder to lift, move, and shelve books and other library materials.
- Stacks books on carts. Pushes heavy cart weighing up to 300 pounds across library.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop, and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
- Works at public service points and roves, which requires staff members to be on their feet for up to several hours at a time.
- Works a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends, and may vary from week to week.
- Sit for extended periods of time while driving a library van maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area. Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving.
- Lift and carry crates filled with books or move library furniture weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance from furniture dollies and book carts.
- Lift, load, unload, and deliver various library materials to other library locations.
- Operate a motor vehicle and travel to/from various City and metro Phoenix locations.
