ABOUT THE POSITION
There is one (1) contingent (temporary) vacant position which will cover shifts on short notice on weekdays and weekends.
Under the supervision of the Crisis Stabilization Unit Registered Nurse, the temporary Behavioral Health Care Assistant (BHCA) assists with basic patient intake and discharge activities, including handing out admission paperwork and assisting clients with questions, cataloging patient property, and handing out necessities such as soap, towels, blankets, etc., plus other duties as assigned. The BHCA assists patients with activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, and bathing. The BHCA continuous effort to make sure patient needs are met while on the unit and performs techniques of de-escalation when necessary. The BHCA assists in ensuring patient safety by completing 15-minute safety checks and 1-hour environmental safety checks on a standardized form. The Behavioral Health Care Assistant is an integral and important part of the CSU team because their consistent and continual contact with patients helps to ensure that our patients are safe, comfortable and cared for while at our unit.
ABOUT YOU
Our Highly Qualified Candidate
Our highly qualified candidate has a minimum of one-year experience working in an inpatient psychiatric unit, psychiatric emergency services or a crisis stabilization unit. The candidate will have previous training in crisis prevention intervention techniques (CPI) or a similar training. Experience working with adults and children (0 to 17) experiencing mental health emergencies is ideal. The successful candidate has a current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or a Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certificate. The candidate is calm in a crisis setting and has experience participating with clinical professionals in patient de-escalation. The ideal candidate maintains an empathetic and helpful approach when interacting with CSU team members, patients, families and staff of other organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of
- Standard practices used in caring for the patients exhibiting significant disturbances in emotional, cognitive, and physical behaviors.
- Computer software applications related to the work.
Ability to
- Learn psychiatric terminology and recognize symptoms indicative of adverse patient reactions.
- Observe and accurately record patients' physical status and mental behavior.
- Follow oral and written directions in exact detail.
- Engage in a professional and productive manner with patients suffering with acute state of psychiatric, behavioral, and/or emotional impairment.
- Interact with patients and their families with empathy, understanding, and tact.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other departmental staff and allied professionals.
