SALARY INFORMATION

This position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list. The eligible list established through this recruitment will be used to fill current/future vacancies in Auditor-Controller and/or any other agencies within the County of Orange. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Accountant/Auditor for the Auditor-Controller will perform accounting/auditing duties including accounts payable, payroll, claims, financial reporting, budget, general accounting, capital assets, audit, and/or cost accounting. This position must be familiar with policies, rules, and regulations related to accounting/auditing. The Senior Accountant/Auditor may perform financial and/or operational audits of County departments, districts, outside contractors, or lessees. They will also prepare audit reports with constructive recommendations based upon findings. In addition, they will exercise a considerable degree of independent judgement in supervising and planning work assigned to them, and receive only general guidance concerning responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will possess either one (1) year of working experience as an Accountant/Auditor II with the County of Orange

OR

Having graduated with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration, Economics, or a related specialized field to have included twenty-four (24) semester or equivalent quarter units in elementary, intermediate, advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, and governmental accounting courses AND two (2) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.

Applicable professional experience/training includes performing duties such as developing financial forecasts and statements, preparing managerial and analytical accounting reports, preparing cost studies, analyzing variances and complex statistical data, developing and flow-charting procedures, posting journal entries, auditing accounts, records and subsidiary ledgers, and determining account classifications.

The ideal candidate will also possess extensive knowledge and/or experience in the following core competencies:

Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.

Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
