A Financial ReportingCoordinator job is available with the City of Fort Worth (Financial Management Services Dept. / Accounting and Financial Reporting Division). The Accounting and Financial Reporting Division safeguards the City's assets by accounting for all capital assets owned by the City, ensuring proper procedures are followed in accordance with each grant agreement and ensuing that all City financial transactions have been accounted for accurately and timely, through accurate monitoring, accounting and reporting and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The division is also responsible for the internal and external publication of financial information related to activities of the City of Fort Worth (e.g., Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Monthly Financial Report).
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in accounting
- Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting/auditing
- Two (2) years of financial reporting responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience producing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and coordinating an independent external audit at a local government.
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience with PeopleSoft ERP software
- Two years of administrative and supervisory experience
The Financial Reporting Coordinator job responsibilities include: - Supervises staff of two (2) Sr Financial Reporting Analysts, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Assists with researching, documenting and implementing conclusions regarding technical accounting treatment for non-routine transactions and new accounting pronouncement.
- Coordinates the annual independent audit of the City’s financial statements; provides support to external auditors; and develops and communicates timelines for completion of all items required by external auditors for year-end audit.
- Assists in the preparation of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) award program requirements.
- Assists with establishing and documenting policies and procedures for annual year-end close and financial audit; ensures proper compliance with established policies and procedures; and analyzes, recommends and implements necessary improvements to annual year-end policies and regulations.
- Serves as the Finance Department’s subject matter expert and advisor with respect to accounting and reporting/disclosure issues (GAAP, GASB, etc.) and implementation of financial software; interprets related policies, procedures and guidelines; and documents, analyzes and reports financial related trends.
- Coordinates assigned accounting/financial projects within the department among different divisions and externally among other departments and/or outside agencies; ensures cooperation of all relevant parties; ensures adherence to project schedules and timelines; and prepares related staff reports and other necessary correspondence or presentations.
