Vacation & Sick Leave

At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

Holidays

The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Retirement:
This position participates in the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS). Your contribution rate, and the City’s contribution rate, will be based on criteria established by regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

General Purpose: Train as an entry-level recruit for promotion to Police Officer upon police academy graduation. Recruits are required to attend the Police Academy for training in community relations, patrol methods, traffic control, causes of criminality, courtroom procedures, investigating methods, fingerprinting and other crime prevention/law enforcement topics through classroom training and field observation. After successful completion of the police academy, employees are promoted to the position of Police Officer.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent

NECESSARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:


Additional Information

This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus.

Must be 21 years of age prior to graduation of the police academy; a U.S. Citizen; possess a valid Arizona Driver's License, and clear criminal record. Ability to type 20 words per minute preferred. Must successfully pass a pre-employment screening, to include a comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, polygraph and psychological exam.
