Description
Distinguishing Features of the ClassPerforms responsible technical work involving the installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise information systems, including servers, operating systems, server software, applications, and hosted or cloud services; performs directly related work as assigned.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide technical support related to enterprise information systems. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Chief Information Officer or designee, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. This class works with vendors and other technical support staff to perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, operating systems, software, applications, databases, hosted or cloud services, and other tasks required to establish and maintain enterprise information systems. This class and provides direction or assistance as appropriate to other department employees involved in customer assistance, technical support, application or system analysis and maintenance, application and database development, and troubleshooting of enterprise information systems. This class also instructs users and other technical support staff and develops and delivers training for the effective use and maintenance of supported systems. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and technical vendors. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
Acceptable Experience and Training- Graduation from an accredited program of study with an Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field; and
- Specialized training in system administration, network technologies, and network administration; and
- Two years’ experience maintaining enterprise information systems, services, or servers in a Microsoft on-premise or cloud-hosted environment; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform the work may be substituted for specific requirements.

Required Special Qualifications- Must possess a valid Iowa Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-offer drug screen and physical examination.
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)- Installs and configures enterprise application software, services, and servers.
- Installs and configures server operating systems and server software components.
- Troubleshoots enterprise information systems including coordinating with vendor technical support.
- Provides technical advice, documentation, and assistance to other technical staff as appropriate for troubleshooting.
- Manages vendor technical support issues, service agreements, and performance.
- Works with analysts and other technical staff to develop and test solutions for new business use cases, process changes, information or data needs, and technology upgrades to enterprise information systems.
- Establishes and maintains user accounts and security.
- Establishes and maintains system security in accordance with City security standards and policies.
- Performs backup, monitoring, testing, and other tasks required to maintain system integrity and performance.
- Acquires and applies patches and fixes to server operating systems and application software.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for hardware, software, or database upgrades and modifications to enterprise information systems.
- Develops and conducts appropriate user training.
- Keeps immediate supervisor advised of work progress including current and potential problems and suggests methods for solving such problems.
- Maintains knowledge of current state of technology that applies to areas of responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
