Why you’ll love this position: The district traffic engineer plans, coordinates, manages and represents a district on all traffic engineering issues including traffic control devices, plans, signing, marking, signals, lighting, permits, work zones, incident management, intelligent transportation system and traffic-related litigation in civil court cases. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
- Provides oversight for a district's traffic field operations and engineering activities; reviews and approves complex or controversial traffic studies; provides direction on development of a district's arterial management system.
- Directs a district highway safety program to identify safety needs and recommend improvements; leads the regional safety blueprint group and other traffic safety initiatives.
- Evaluates traffic control device needs and functionality, and approves/recommends improvements in traffic flow through signal coordination, signal timing and corridor management.
- Ensures the permitting process addresses access impacts to the transportation system.
- Directs the traffic section's input on core teams for major projects.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
- Nine years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires occasional, statewide and out-of-state, overnight travel.
- Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions.
- This title requires advanced accreditation or licensure which is only available to holders of specific postsecondary degrees.
