Serves as Chief of Custody in an adult correctional facility with the Division of Adult Institutions / Functions as the administrative officer in the management of the custody force, and is responsible for keeping the security of the facility viable and current / Assumes responsibility for the operation of the facility in the absence of an administrative supervisor; and as Facility Duty Officer as scheduled
Conducts interviews with offenders regarding work assignments and personal problems; serves on the facility classification committee / Reviews all use-of-force reports to ensure accuracy, appropriateness, and necessity; and participates as a part of the facility offender disciplinary committee responsible for determining disciplinary measures to be carried out in cases involving violation of division or facility rules / Conducts, directs, and assists with administrative inquiries and investigations of reported infractions of rules and regulations by offenders and employees
Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper facility staff specialists; and promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offenders’ social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behavior, and encouraging worthwhile activities / Conducts regular tours of various zones of the facility to observe and report any irregularities of staff in the performance of their duties and/or any desirable change in operating procedures; and participates in the interviewing and selecting new Corrections Officers / Serves as institutional coordinator during instances of escape, riot, or other emergencies requiring experience and expertise in security and emergency tactics and procedures; and selects/trains/assigns, supervises/evaluates staff in the area of facility custody and security
Assists Corrections Managers with policy development, program planning, and coordination related to facility custody and security, and the evaluation of policy and/or organizational changes and new programs; and assists in directing and supervising facility activities and programs
Coordinates and monitors the institutional offender transfer process for the Missouri Department of Corrections
Participates in committees, conferences, training sessions, and meetings relating to areas of assigned responsibility; and is responsible for the procurement, use, storage, and inventory of firearms and security equipment / Assembles, reviews, and prepares reports regarding requests for disciplinary actions on staff; exercises considerable discretion in the performance of duties within established guidelines; receives general administrative direction; and performs other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Five or more years of correctional experience within the Missouri Department of Corrections, or at a city, county, state, or federal correctional facility, of which at least one year must have been at the level of Correctional Captain, Functional Unit Manager, or comparable section head.
All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed. Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
