THE POSITION

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one full-time vacancy. The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and temporary vacancies for up to one year.

The City of Vallejo is seeking candidates for the position of Landscape Inspector, as a collaborative member of the City's Public Works Department. The Landscape Inspector is responsible for inspecting work quality and materials used in a variety of landscape construction and maintenance projects and subdivisions to ensure conformance with approved plans, specifications and departmental regulations and to maintain records and prepare reports pertaining to projects inspected.

The ideal Landscape Inspector will have at least two years of experience in the fields of landscape maintenance, design, and horticulture.

While not required, the possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and/or a Certified Arborist Certification issued by the International Society of Arboriculture are highly desirable.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for the engineering design, construction, and maintenance of the City's roads, sidewalks, traffic signals, trees, open spaces, and buildings. The department also manages stormwater compliance programs, transportation planning, recycling & solid waste contract services, and operates the Vallejo Municipal Marina.

The Landscape Maintenance District (LMD) section manages 26 LMDs and 1 Community Facilities District (CFD) through contract administration for all districts, landscape design, and construction inspection of new development areas within the LMDs and CFD.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the fields of landscape maintenance, design, horticulture or a related field.

Training:
A high school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by courses in landscape maintenance, horticulture, landscape planning or landscape architecture.

License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.

The Recruitment & Selection Process

2. Applications will be screened for overall qualifications in the week of May 26, 2025.

3. Oral Panel Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place in the week of June 16, 2025. Oral Panel Interviews are weighed at 100% of the candidates' score. Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 70%. Those achieving 70% or higher will be placed on the Register of Eligibles (eligible list) and may be considered to fill positions for up to one year.

The City reserves the right to limit the number of candidates to those determined to be best qualified based upon all requested application materials, including training and experience, current resume, and responses to supplemental questions.

4. Candidates placed on the Register of Eligibles (eligible list) will be referred to the department for final interviews based on their performance in the exam. The number of candidates referred for a hiring interview is at the discretion of the hiring department.

Disaster Service Workers

All City of Vallejo ("City") employees are designated Disaster Service Workers ("DSW") by state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all DSW-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
