A Sr. Human Services Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department, Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR).
The Neighborhood Services Department - Neighborhood Improvement and Revitalization Division, helps Fort Worth /Tarrant County residents achieve well-being and independence through opportunities that protect, empower, respect choice and preserve dignity. Our services are delivered in the least restrictive setting and in partnership with Tarrant County communities.
Neighborhood Services Department is a welcoming environment that offers a wide range of services to support financial independence and supportive services to clients. We are currently seeking a professional who is a critical thinker, has excellent communication, time-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills to join our Community Services team.
The Sr. Human Services Specialist’s primary purpose is to perform a variety of administrative duties, serve as an intake lead over specific programs related to CDBG-DR, assist in the development of case management plans and analyze grant performance.
This is a grant funded overage position that will extend only to September 1, 2027, unless additional grant funds are received. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in social services program setting, Victims Assistance Program setting.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: - Two (2) years of experience in interviewing/eligibility assessment for a social services or related program.
- Preference may be given to higher levels of education, experience and certifications as related to the vacancy.
- Possession of a SSW, LMSW, LPC, and LCDC is not required, but is highly preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Experience with Federal grants.
The Sr. Human Services Specialist job responsibilities include: - Within established guidelines for HARRP (Homeowners Assistance Repair and Rehab Program), determines applicant eligibility, notifies applicant and refers to appropriate internal or external agencies; explains program policies and procedures, rules and regulations to potential applicants.
- Provides information and appropriate community referrals to applicants. Acts as a liaison between citizens and other internal staff.
- Assists supervisory and management staff with the establishment and revision of related policies and procedures; makes recommendations to increase efficiency and effectiveness of assigned programs and services; confers with supervisory staff to implement policies.
- Facilitates, promotes, and enhances participation in program with community outreach.
- Ability to learn, develop and apply program guidelines and processes.
- Ability to coach and train staff to improve their performance in the provision of social services.
- Must have the ability to empathize and be compassionate with clients/customers who may be upset or angry.
- Communicate decisions, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to clients or customers verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills with co-workers, managers, and clients/customers; work to develop relationships with partner agencies.
