The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director of Public Works in managing the operations and direction of the department within the context of strategic goals and objectives. Under the direction of the Director, is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining policies and regulations, living cost estimates, review of design deliverables, management of professional services contracts, and monitoring of progress during the design & construction phase of the project pertaining to engineering, water, wastewater, meter reading, streets, and stormwater.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages one or two direct reports (superintendents) who supervise employees in the Stormwater, Streets, Water/Wastewater, and Meter Reading. Manages the City engineer and oversees all aspects of the engineering department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Technical SkillsComputer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Micro Station, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGIS, EPA SWMM, & proficiency in MS Office including Excel & Powerpoint
