Classification Title: Student Service Professional IV

Classification Salary Range: $6,320 - $9,014 per month .

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $6,320 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Toro CARE, the Housing Stability Coordinator provides critical and complex support to the department, with specific attention to assisting students experiencing housing crises. This role will coordinate the CSUDH Rapid Re-Housing program and Housing Stability Programs, including short-term housing support and affordability projects. Responsibilities include case management, assessing student needs, and connecting them with university and community resources. The incumbent will use standardized intake assessments and case management tools, adhere to processes and procedures of the program, establish and maintain relationships with our community-based organization partner, and utilize a demonstrated level of expertise in housing resources available in Los Angeles County. The Housing Stability Coordinator works collaboratively with on- and off-campus partners, navigating complex university systems and processes to resolve student crises with professionalism and sensitivity.

The Housing Stability Coordinator will be responsible for communicating the program to internal and external partners, creation and implementation of an evaluation and assessment plan for the program, effective response to the evaluation and assessment results, and on-going identification of potential community housing partners. This role requires a high level of professionalism, tact, autonomous sound and creative decision making to meet the program deliverables.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Triage, respond and appropriately address and resolve all Toro CARE housing referrals, assessing for student eligibility into the Rapid Rehousing program and/or other housing and basic needs support services where guidelines and precedents do not always exist.
• Assess the holistic needs of students to facilitate support measures beyond the immediate crisis to improve academic success, retention to the university, and overall well-being of the student.
• Through a case management framework and collaboration with the student, create specially tailored action plans to address complex crises, implementation of resolution, and follow up on the plan accordingly.
• Establish and maintain a close working relationship with a Community Based Organization (CBO) to ensure effective and efficient hand-off with student referrals, including management of the referral process between CSUDH and CBO.
• Assist in the creation of a protocol for case management of students in the Rapid Re-housing program, utilizing social work theory, best practices in Rapid Rehousing programs, and sound and critical judgment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
• Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
• A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal, or career counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work independently and directly with students, often in complex housing situations, utilizing a high degree of keen questioning to determine a plan of action to resolve their crisis.
• Ability to adjust approaches and techniques in the face of unpredictable responses and rapidly changing circumstances to best serve the students.
• In complex situations without established procedures, ability to apply best practices, social work principles, and critical thinking to make sound judgments.
• Must have a high degree of professionalism, tact, and acknowledgement of the sensitive nature of student situations.
• Ability to advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.
• Ability to determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field.
• One year in the program area to which assigned
• Case management experience.
• Experience working with clients facing immediate crisis.
• Experience working with local community resources.
• Experience with program development and evaluation.
• Experience working under a state-funded grant program and reporting procedures.
• Experience working with housing insecure or displaced individuals.
• Experience working in a university setting or with young adult populations.
