Full-time position available with the Health Department, Communicable Disease Division, located at 2400 Troost.
Salary Range: $7,268-$10,902/month
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.

Responsibilities

Exciting opportunity to lead in the Health Department at the City of Kansas City, Missouri!

The Health Department has an exciting opportunity to lead and be apart of the Department's Leadership Team and work closely with the Deputy Director of the Health Department. This position exercises a high level of independent judgment and initiative .

Key Responsibilities:

Lead & Inspire: Oversees and leads a division of 75+ staff and the Departments clinical and laboratory operations. Interprets and implements policies for the overall administration of the Division; and coordinates and assures the monitoring of special projects of public health importance, including health equity and public health preparedness.

Data Collection & Analysis : Leads a team that investigates, collects data, analyzes trends, and produces reports, graphs and charts.

Documentation & Education: Ensures the quality of the record-keeping system and provides lectures and presentations on a variety of communicable diseases and other public health issues.

Public Speaking & Media/Community Relations: Represents the Division and the Department to the media, elected officials, state and local public health officials, and community partners. Interprets and implements policies for the overall administration of the Division.

Project Management & Planning: Coordinates and assures the monitoring of special projects of public health importance, including health equity and public health preparedness.


Qualifications

REQUIRES a minimum of a Master's degree with a preference in Public Health and seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience in public health OR a Doctoral degree and 3 years of relevant experience. In addition, candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and work effectively with elected officials, other agencies, public and private community-based organizations, the media, and the public.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
