A Sr. Environmental Specialist job is available with The City of Fort Worth (Water Department / Customer Care Division / Conservation Section). This position will help develop and implement general water conservation programs, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with regional goals and regulations. This position performs project management duties related to water efficiency programs across residential, commercial, and institutional customer sectors, while also assisting with marketing efforts and helping to grow the Department’s social media presence. The role includes supervising and supporting junior staff, offering technical guidance on program delivery and outreach, and contributing to planning and reporting efforts. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage a wide variety of creative, technical, and digital projects, with a strong capacity to integrate strategic communications that promote the efficient use of water.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, resource management, communications, public administration or a related field.
- Three (3) years of responsible experience in state or federally regulated environmental programs.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in managing multiple projects and timelines
- Experience working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of current and emerging trends in water efficiency/conservation
- Ability to interpret data and make recommendations on water use data
- Knowledge of project/program management practices and procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
The Sr. Environmental Specialist job responsibilities include: - Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring/evaluation of conservation programs
- Serve as technical expert on water efficiency issues
- Evaluate opportunities for public involvement and community networks
- Research water conservation programs, techniques and prepare recommendations for overall program objectives and goals
- Assist in developing and implementing outreach strategies and community engagement initiatives
- Oversee the development of marketing materials and public information tools
- Provide supervision, mentorship and technical guidance and assist in workload planning and performance management
- Collaborate with other departments, agencies and regional partners to develop and support joint conservation initiatives

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, unsanitary conditions, workspace restrictions, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor even when dealing with upset customers/citizens.
Physical Demand Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
